Champions League Quarter Final Draw: City Draw PSG, Barcelona Face Atletico

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was confident his side, fresh from wrapping up a fourth straight French Ligue 1 title in record time, can get to their first Champions League semi-final in 20 years.

However, Barcelona, the five-time champions who comfortably defeated Arsenal in the last 16, have won their last six meetings with Atletico.

Diego Simeone's side will be buoyed by the fact that they lost narrowly to the Catalan side despite being reduced to 9-men in La Liga in January and might have felt like they deserved a draw from the fixture. It is a first-ever quarter-final for City. There were easier teams in the draw, but to win the CL you have to beat them all.

Defending champion Barcelona will play Atletico Madrid in an all-Spanish quarterfinal in the Champions League.

City defeated Dynamo Kiev to reach the last eight of Europe's elite competition for the first time.

Elsewhere, Real Madrid have been paired with Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich take on Atleti's group opponents Benfica, and PSG meet Manchester City.

The draw means City will avoid meeting their future manager Pep Guardiola in the last eight - the Spaniard will replace Pellegrini in the Etihad Stadium hot-seat this summer after three years in charge of the German champions.

In the Champions League quarter-finals you know you're going to get that kind of opponent.

Atletico ousted Barcelona in the 2014 quarterfinals when it made a surprise run to the final.

The final will take place in Milan on May 28.

"My first reaction was: 'Wow!' But we'll do our best, we have confidence in our team", City's director of football Txiki Begiristain told the club website.
