Former First Lady Lucy Kibaki's body arrived from London on Sunday morning.

The former First Lady Lucy Kibaki will be laid to rest on Saturday in Othaya, Nyeri county.

Retired President Mwai Kibaki is in London and is expected to fly back to the country tomorrow as the body of his wife is brought back for burial.

Accompanying the body was former President Mwai Kibaki in the company of his family and were received by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the airport.

The president consoled Kibaki as a somber mood gripped mourners who had gathered at the airport.

Military pallbearers carried the casket which was draped in the national flag.

A prayer service was then held by Catholic Reverend Father Dominic Wamugunda, after which the body was taken to the Lee Funeral Home as arrangements for a State funeral got underway.

Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe said on Friday that three days of national mourning will be marked beginning Sunday.

In the wee hours of one morning in March, Mama Lucy is reported to have fallen ill and was rushed to Gertrude's Children's Hospital for emergency care before getting transferred Nairobi Hospital where she was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.
