Bumgarner is set to start the Sunday before the All-Star Game, making him ineligible to pitch in the game.

Bartolo Colon and Max Scherzer are headed to the All-Star Game, picked as replacements for other pitchers originally selected for the National League team.

This year will be Colon's first as a member of the National League.

Colon has started 17 games this season, posting a 7-4 record with 65 strikeouts and a 3.28 ERA.

The overall results are the best of Colon's Mets career thus far. "This guy's pitched, the couldn't even get tell you against how many Cy Young award winners in his career".

"Well, one thing about Bartolo, this is a matchup he's had 50 times", Collins said of Colon before that game. "There's a lot of great ballplayers around the league, and I wasn't expecting this".

While Colon is not the oldest player to make an All-Star team - that distinction belongs to Satchel Paige at 47 - it's still incredibly impressive that he'll be there regardless. He will now have made an All-Star team in three different decades.

Colon is the oldest All-Star this season.

He joins OF Yoenis Cespedes (who is starting in left field), and pitchers Noah Syndergaard and Jeurys Familia, who were chosen on the players ballot as reserves.
