Nico Rosberg is not anxious about receiving a penalty for a radio message he received from Mercedes during the British Grand Prix.

Knowing he had only one chance with just three minutes remaining, Hamilton responded with a spectacular lap in the final seconds of a dramatic qualifying session.

As befits a British sporting hero, Lewis Hamilton's journey to pole position for the British Grand Prix was one of maximum jeopardy. "Ping-ping-ping-ping. I came through that section and I don't think I could have done it much faster".

"Being under pressure is something not to shy away from, something to attack full on and that is generally what I try to do", he said. I was just sitting in the garage and I knew that I couldn't let the guys down...

"I put the trophy down, and I could see the crowd and I just wanted to connect with them in some way".

For a brief moment it appeared as though matters would worsen for Rosberg after he was summoned to the stewards for an alleged safety vehicle line breach in qualifying. Drivers are instructed to travel between these two lines in a time less than 1:45.00.

The rule exists to help reduce the risk of accidents caused by slow drivers interfering with others on fast laps.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start third ahead of his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.

That collision saw Hamilton limp to the finish in first after taking minor damage, but Rosberg fell several places and suffered for it. Many felt that Rosberg crashed into Hamilton given the ample room left when Hamilton went around the outside, but Rosberg tried to squeeze him and ultimately, his auto took more damage and his championship lead shrunk. "Right now, I'm thinking about all the people".

"Tomorrow will be a tough race, as always, and it's important we do our due diligence tonight and tomorrow morning to make sure we're on top of tyres, strategy and so on".

The 31-year-old defending champion reeled off his fourth win in five races to cut Rosberg's lead to four points nearly at the half-way point of the season.

Was it all clear now between him and Hamilton?

"Having considered the matter extensively, the stewards determined that the team gave some instructions to the driver that were specifically permitted", said the statement.

Sebastian Vettel qualified sixth but will start from 11th following a gearbox change. "He did a great job today", Rosberg said. "We are strong compared to the cars behind us, but it seems like the Mercedes has a turbo button".

"It's going to be hard to overtake, this is one of the most hard tracks for that".

"It was a very good lap, a really, really nice lap", Hamilton said.
